It is just nice!
A couple of months ago, at the bus stop, I smiled and said hello to a young woman waiting to catch the bus with my her son. She returned my greeting warmly. Her son, a little man full of energy and boundless joy, paused and looked at me quizzically for a few seconds. He finally turns to his mother and this is the conversation that ensued:
Little Man: why did you say hello to him?
Mom: because he said hello to me
Little Man: but you don’t know him!
Mom (smiling): It is just nice!
So, the next time anybody asks you why you are always so happy or why you smile so much or why you are so civil or why you are so polite or why you are so kind or why you sing in the shower or why you laugh so hard or why you are so nice, just answer: IT IS JUST NICE!
